In collaboration with SONA Green Composites, sitour is developing ski slope boards made of hemp for use in ski resorts.
SONA Green Composites is an Innsbruck-based company specializing in natural fiber composites. It combines renewable raw materials with modern technologies and innovative manufacturing processes to develop environmentally responsible signage.
Through the partnership between sitour and SONA, this expertise is now being specifically applied to alpine slope infrastructure. SONA manufactures ski slope boards exclusively for sitour using hemp grown in Tyrol and processed using natural methods. In this way, sitour is supplementing the conventional materials used in its proven marking—designed for orientation and safety on ski slopes—with a resource-conserving alternative.
Regional hemp, as a bio-based rather than fossil-based raw material that regenerates annually, offers impressive functionality, stability, and durable material properties, combined with regional economic benefits and a significantly reduced carbon footprint. In addition, the natural material’s tested weather and UV resistance also meets the high requirements for long-term use under varying weather conditions in ski resorts.
With the new hemp-based ski slope boards, sitour offers ski lift operators in the Alpine region another opportunity to visibly and sustainably integrate sustainability into their infrastructure over the long term.
